Well,  once again there is a significant weight gain on the scale,  and this time I am disgusted.  Since the end of December I have already gained back 4 of the 9 pounds it took me 12 weeks to lose...  Will there ever be a time when my eating habits are well and truly changed so that I don't feel like I'm always saying "I really shouldn't" and often going ahead anyway?  Really discouraged this morning.

Thanks for the quick reply! I do have to say I知 loving my mood so far with this plan. I have read so much info on how the carbs I知 eating are bad so this is a different approach but I知 loving how I don稚 have to feel quilt for eating a couple of graham crackers!!

I have always exercised at the level I am exercising at now, 30 min 5x per week. Before starting this plan I would eat a larger dinner with protein. Before bed I would eat a large carby snack (I知 estimating 300 to 500 cals) and typically this would be my time for binge eating which has been an awful habit for me. I知 hoping spd is going to help with this.

The first day on spd I was thirsty throughout the night. I have been drinking a ton of water since then!

Hello, and welcome!

I agree: good quality sleep is essential and I'm glad you wrote in.  I'm really curious to know how the eating plan on The Serotonin Power Diet compares to how you were eating before.  For example, what were you previously eating for dinner?  Were you eating close to bedtime?  How about the quantity of food, was that significantly different?  Have your exercise patterns changed in the past few days (for example, adding exercise, or not exercising)?  Have you been hungry or thirsty at bedtime or during the night?  Any change in alcohol consumption?  If we can identify what specifically about The Serotonin Power Diet is affecting your sleep it would be helpful and we can tweak the program to get you back on track with sleep. 

The eating plan affects everyone differently and it makes sense that changing your eating patterns can take a while to get used to.  I encourage you to stick with it for at least a few more days if not the full 2 weeks of Phase I.

I started the food plan two days ago. The first night I tossed and turned all night, and last night I woke up three times. I love sleep and if sleep continues to be an issue I won稚 be able to continue the plan long term. I have followed the plan exactly for two days, and I made sure to have my evening snack to help with sleep.

Typically I sleep all night with no problem, and when I have started new eating plans in the past sleep has been an issue.

Is their anything I can do?

Thanks for the update and yes, that is wonderful to read that your reaction was to get back on track knowing you have something that works for you - way to go!  I know it's dismaying to see weight gain but I always like to remind readers and clients that it's the overall trend and finding a way of eating that overall you can stick with in the long term that counts.  Allowing yourself the pleasures of family traditions, sweets you enjoy, and letting go for a few days is another way of taking care of yourself. 

You've got so much to be proud of since staring the Serotonin Power Diet among which are weight loss, maintaining an exercise program that works for you, managing the ups and downs of "life", sticking with positive habits, being kind to yourself, and probably quite a few other things you can easily come up with and that is a wonderful bundle of gifts with which to continue your journey!

Stick with it - it's worth it :-)

p.s. Believe me, I know all about getting off track with the holidays, cold weather, holiday foods, etc. and I, too, am happy to be getting back to my usual exercise and eating routines!

Hang in there,  Nellie Cat!  This diet WORKS, and Dr. Nina will be there with you along the way!  Just keep tweaking the diet until you get to where it is working again for you, whatever that turns out to be.  One of the things I love about this diet is how it can be personalized so much for each person.  Also,  Dr. Nina's suggestions are always insightful and encouraging!

I've been off and on the diet for more than two years now,  and all total I'm approximately 30 pounds lighter than before I made the acquaintance of the SPD.

I "stopped" the SPD on December 21,  and then wasn't terribly careful what I ate at my mom's over Christmas.  However,  I still lost some that week.  Last weekend we had our traditional New Year's Eve pizza,  and I ate quite a bit of the sweets we brought home from mom's.  I gained 2.5 pounds this past week.  I was surprised and dismayed,  to say the least.  So,  back we go,  I guess, to Serotonin Balance stage for a few more weeks.  Once I am back to where I was,  weight wise, I'm hoping I can add back in the cookies and/or sweet bread just at supper and just on weekends.  Plus,  after a week of being away and having several doctors' appointments for annual things, I am back exercising,  so that should also help. 

Yikes, I was not a happy camper yesterday morning when I saw that scale,  but my first reaction was not "I give up" but "Oops,  back to the diet."  I guess that's progress!!  :)

You are very welcome - it means a lot to me, and it's really inspiring, to know you are making positive changes in your life.  I'm glad to share the journey with you. 

Thank you for your kind words about my family member - yes, with 3 teenagers joy life is certainly not boring :-)

I always love this time of year to exercise gratitude and keep open to what will be most meaningful in the new year.  I wish you and your family a very happy New Year as well - here's to all of us tapping into our true selves and staying in tune with what matters most to us!

Thank you SO MUCH for all your support this past year.  You have helped me stick to it by your kind words.  :D

I'm sorry to hear about your family member who is not doing well.  I have put you on my prayer list to remember you and your family.  Wow,  three teenagers - that would keep me going in and of itself!
