just started any advice
« on: April 18, 2008, 09:37:57 AM »
Hi
I thought I would try and check what this new way of eating is all about.  My sister in law lost a ton of weight and loves the program.  I am doing weight watchers and was successfully with it after I had my son three years ago.  I lost 80 pounds.  Now I am trying to lose the weight from my daughter who is 6 months.  I have 15 pounds left to be at my goal and am bored and discouraged and saw how my sister in law lost all of her weight and she is a carb lover and so am I so I thought I would give this plan a chance and see what it is all about.  Does anyone have any advice for me. ::)

Hi Lisa - I am Lisa, too!  Anyway - my best recommendation for you is to get the book - if you haven't already borrowed your  sis-in-law's.  This way you have all of the information before you start and get off to a good start.  I attempted to start from a magazine article that I read - which was extrememly vague.  If you have not already bought or received the book, I would also suggest buying used online at amazon.com.  I paid $8 for mine, and they had it to me within a five days or so and was in great condition.

I, too, needed to lose 15 pounds (I've lost 8-10 as of right now!) and I am also doing Weight Watchers in correlation with this plan.  It is working great for me!  Phase I of this plan was very rough on me - I think I was producing too much serotonin or something, so after three weeks of trying Phase I, I put myself on Phase II of SPD - along with WW - that has been my key to success!

I don't know what I would do without SPD - the carb snacks are wonderful - and I know that this is something I could live with for the rest of my life - that's what's so great about it.  You will find that your mindset and stress level about carbs will immediately go away.

I think each person reacts differently to the plan, but overall, most everyone on here has found there own nitch and it has worked really well for all of us regulars!

Welcome!  Let us know what you decide to do!

Lisa

[color=green]Welcome Lisa!  And it's so glad to know your name feenlida because
it's weird calling someone that (does it mean something?  sorry, I'm clueless)
I just love when new folks come and we can all share our stories ... and learn from each other;
it's so wonderful to have the support here!
My advice:  Give it the 12 weeks unless you have adverse effects.
We're here to cheer you on!  Don't worry about messing up, you don't
have to be a prisoner to food anymore.  Every day is a new day!
Best wishes to you!

Hahahaha., Lil!  I hadn't given my name at first just to be sure the site was secure, after that, I didn't think about again until just now!

Yes, my name does mean something:

feenlida    feen = the first four letters of my last name  li = first two letters of my name
da=the first two letters of my hubby's name

THere you have it!

Lisa, congrats on the new baby and starting SPD!  I pushed the idea aside at first when the heading read "Lose 57 pounds by summer," and then I kept going back and trying to find the 'catch.'  Well, I'm down twenty pounds and have just given in to the idea that there is no 'catch.'  It's low-fat, low-cal with a side of exercise and timing......I know I can do this for the rest of my life!  You'll be amazed how fast the time goes before you get to have a snack or meal, and that makes it all worth it for me.  I'm struggling a little with times when I'm at someone else's home or on the road, but am learning that a little preparation goes a long way in keeping to the plan!  Best of luck to you!          ~Anne

[color=green]Wow Anne, you're amazing!  I'm so happy for you!
Yes, it's a very sensible plan and preparation helps.
(I'm finding that out this week unfortunately because
there's just no food in the house!)
Best wishes to everybody.

Thank you for all of your comments. This is my third week and have already lost 7 lbs.  I lost 5 the first week, none the second, and two the third.  I am off and running. Lisa

(laugh out loud and fall on the floor)
You sound like that GNC commercial/cartoon where
the woman shows her weight loss compared to her husband's...
makes me laugh every time.
Don't give up -- you can both enjoy the benefits :D

Hahahaha!  I love that commercial!  It is so true.  All my husband has to do is SAY the word diet and he loses wait.  How rude!
