Hi all,
I just started phase 1 about a week ago. I just happened to read an email that came to me from Prevention titled " Lose Up to 2 Pounds of Pure Fat Every Week". Sometimes I glance at them but this time I decided to research their claims of your book "The Serotonin Power Diet" to see if any of it could be true. I decided to purchase the book from Amazon and after a lot of google searching figured out phase 1 so I could get started as soon as possible. I've since then checked at my local library your other book "The Serotonin Solution" and have noticed some slight differences...alternatives to the diet.
Needless to say, this is amazing! If I had not tried it for myself I would not have believed it. I've suffered from PMS and depression most of my adult life (I'm 39) and recently decided it was something I'd just have to learn to live with. I was on anti-depressants several years ago and couldn't stand them.
I have already lost 2 pounds effortlessly! And for the first time I'm dieting and have enough energy to exercise. Incredible. I would like to lose another 15-20 lbs but my ultimate goal will be to keep it off... something I've never been able to do for more than about 6 months. That will be the true test.
Looking forward to asking lots of questions. Thanks in advance!!!!
Yvonne

Welcome aboard, Yvonne. I also have lost a couple of pounds, and I look forward to loosing 10-15 more. Everytime I consider a new plan to lose, my husband encourages to stick with SPD; he says that I am much easier to live with on this plan. I look forward to this journey with you. I feel certain that we will both reach the finish line.

Welcome Yvonne! Like Coast, I too feel so much better on this diet. Those carb snacks really work - for example, after church today I had a run-in with someone who is basically angry a lot. This person said some words to obviously bait me into an argument. Because it's worked before. But about 10 minutes earlier I had my snack (black coffee, 1/3 c. miniature marshmallows and 1 hard sourdough pretzel - 150 cals and 34.5 g. carbs). I was feeling very calm and for the first time, instead of being reactive with this person and arguing back, I could step out of myself, assess the situation and not fall for it. Basically, I was honest and very calmly told this person I felt I was being baited and I would not get into an argument, and it was best if we didn't talk at that moment. This person got even angrier, said some choice words...and huffed away. I feel it was because I reacted so differently than I normally react, caught this person off-guard and they saw they couldn't argue with me!
I felt bad for this person but good for myself because I feel calmer and not be so reactive anymore. This diet is like an antidepressant for me! The longer you stay on it, the better it works! You lose weight AND regain your sanity - woo hoo!
Glad you're here!

Thanks for the welcome, ladies.
Though I said the true test will be in keeping the weight off I suppose an even truer test will be during PMS time. If my predictions are correct, my poor children and husband will be happier during that time as well. I have known to become a little psycho...we'll just leave it at that.
But now I feel there's hope because of what I've experienced over the last week. In about another week I should begin the process of finding out more.
The coolest part is that most of these foods are ones I've been eating already but based on other diets they are forbidden. Now I'm not feeling guilty and enjoying them all the time...just not all at once. I've even found a few new ones!!

Welcome!
LIke you, my most important goal with this plan is KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF. That is the true test for me also.
But right now, it is so fantastic to actually be losing weight w/o deprivation & real hunger. That too, had become a seemingly impossible feat for me in mid life! And feeling better is such an added bonus! What more could one want with a diet plan?
So very thankful to have found this life-changing research! Thank you Nina & Judy!
I am reviewing the book again, and that is helpful also. 'Still plan to try some of the recipes as I go along, but usually do simple quick meals.

Thanks for the welcome, Alice.
My book just got here! I'm so excited.
I keep rethinking what the best part of this diet is and I really can't decide. All the benefits are amazing. The tamed cravings, the calm mood, the restful nights sleep, the energy to exercise, the different choices of food instead of limitations, the ability to stop on my own before I overeat...the list goes on and on.
Interesting that I have noticed a little bit of nausea occasionally and then read in the Serotonin Solution that it is typical of increased serotonin but will soon subside. I feel so stereotypical.
Off to curl up on the couch and get into a good book!!

I am going shopping today for phase 1 food! I am a bit anxious, only because it is new, and I will be out of my comfortable rut of the same food...I, too, received an email from Prevention, and it caught my eye, bought the book thru Deepdiscount.com and now am ready. I have been on the lo-carb, once again, since September, to lose regained weight, once again. I am looking forward to trying this, and regaining some energy! Good luck everybody!
I was very nervous the first few days but the snacks really do what they're supposed to do. And it's so enjoyable. I even began to tell the difference between real hunger and appetite.
Looking forward to hearing about your success.
